C-section scar massage
Easing painful, numb and restricted scars and helping you to reconnect with your body after a caesarean birth
It takes at least 2 years for a scar to reach maturity.
Congratulations on the birth if your baby! And, having a c-section birth is major surgery, so it is even more important to really look after yourself as well as your little one.
Your scar may have an impact on the way you move & how you feel about yourself. It is never too early to engage positively with your scar - simply place your palms gently over the scar area and feel their warmth & love flow. When your scar has fully healed, massage is an essential aspect of your post surgery care.
Easing discomfort & improving movement
Many women experience pulling, tingling and numbness around the scar area, which can cause discomfort elsewhere in your body, such as your chest, back and pelvic floor. This can be exaggerated if you suffer from any infections.
This is because scar tissue naturally forms at the incision site and without proper care, tissues can become dense, tight, potentially leading to pain and discomfort. Massage will soften and break down scar tissue, reducing its impact on your body
How can massaging your scar help your post birth recovery?
Improve appearance
Your scar may be red, raised, tight and angry looking. Many women also experience an overhanging pod of tissue above their scar too - which can majorly impact how you feel about your body.
Massage promotes better circulation, reduces inflammation & swelling and speeds up the healing process. Scars can visibly improve and your overhang may reduce.
Emotional healing
Scars can obviously impact all aspects of your whole life from what you wear, how you see yourself, intimacy with your partner, returning to exercise and so much more. Gentle touch and self care can help repair, reconnect and build a positive relationship with your body
